Merry Wives of Windsor

Following highly acclaimed musical productions of Garrick and Colman’s The Clandestine Marriage and Sheridan’s School for Scandal, Consensus enjoyed presenting one of Shakespeare’s best-loved comedies The Merry Wives of Windsor.

In a new adaptation of the play by Tim Johnson, Shakespeare’s text was interwoven with the bubbly and infectious music of Otto Nicolai’s operatic reworking of the play to create an evening of entertainment, drama and comedy, performed by the finest local actors and singers.

“My wife and I have just returned from a visit to our family in your part of the world – and we took the opportunity to see ‘Macbeth’ on Wednesday of last week; on Thursday morning wandering around Stratford, we spotted your flyer for ‘The Merry Wives’.
Having sung the part of Ford back in 1960, we bought tickets for your performance and wow! – we were certainly not disappointed! What a splendid & excellent production it proved to be, dealing with the problems of ‘the round’ as you did. And as for the vocalising…………what can one say? First-rate – with Mistress Ford & Mistress Page outstanding! And do give our congratulations to Maddy Evans for her extremely competent and sympathetic accompaniment throughout!

We wish you every success in all that you undertake and hope that we may have the pleasure of seeing you all in action at some future date.”
